We are a non-profit, community-led organization that wants to help free and open source projects prosper. We provide Git hosting and other services, such as Weblate, Woodpecker CI and Pages.

(We try our best to be responsive, but we receive many notifications on here. Please consider using another communication channel if you need to share something urgent, thanks!)

For the early adopters who want to use Git with SHA256 commit hashes: We have updated Git across our systems and the feature is now enabled.

Since Git sha256 repositories require compatible Git clients, we still recommend to use the sha1 format if you hope for collaborators, but feel free to try with your team or your dotfiles.

If you encounter any issues, please let us know via codeberg.org/Codeberg/Communit

I pushed a feature update for :fietkau_software: fietkau.software/qr today. 🙂

It has two fun new shape styles, a bunch of added logos (👋 @pixelfed @joinpeertube @Codeberg @forgejo and more), some advanced options for turbo nerds, and irregularly shaped logos now get better cutouts.

I think this covers most of the feature requests I've received. 😀

August–September 2024 Development Update

We have spent the time since the last update on infrastructure tasks and smaller features.

Most importantly, we have configured Codeberg Translate, the Codeberg’s (@Codeberg) instance of Weblate, for Topola. This provides an easy way to translate Topola without having to know how to use advanced software such as Git.

We invite you to translate Topola to your language too!

@steffo This depends on how "big" your repositories will be. A lot of the performance will depend on Git operations.

The app is written in Go and due to the garbage collected memory management, it will probably eat memory if more is available. Running it with ~ 100MiB should be completely possible in many cases though, and if your system is low on memory, the Go runtime typically frees more of it.

I just contemplated for a minute how awesome it is that @Codeberg exists. I was reformatting the link to codeberg on my (these days empty-ish) github profile and it felt like the most normal thing that most of my repositories now live on an independent, community-led platform ... but it's totally not!

Some people set out to make it happen and put in so much energy and personal time and resources, and they made it happen! And still every day there's a few incredibly dedicated core volunteers behind the scenes, keeping things running for us all, and hundreds of members providing funds and oversight, and devs building forgejo and so on ... what a marvel of the free software movement. Also love the political energy behind it and that people are mostly very clear on the mission: Tech is political. Code is political. And we better make damn sure we make it good politics!! (•̀ᴗ•́)و
