Föderation EN Mo 17.02.2025 19:01:54 @GerritStegehuis To be fair, even if someone discovered and made public a backdoor on WhatsApp (a real one, not speculation), most people would not move to Signal. Well, most of my contacts that moved from WhatsApp moved to Telegram, which isn't encrypted by default and even makes encrypted chats hard to use. Most people I saw talking about moving from WhatsApp also say they prefer Telegram because it was more features (of course, in exchange for their data). The only three contacts I have on Signal are people who care about their privacy (like a IT worker and a gov worker). Even if Signal got popular somehow, I don't see companies (which use WhatsApp a lot: I have lots of company contacts here, like healthcare, foods, banks, airlines...) using it since it's hard to set up bots for it. |
Föderation EN Mo 17.02.2025 19:52:05 A progressive gen z person I know even thought Signal was a "bad company". No idea how she got that into her head (TikTok I'd imagine, and she's also part of the Apple cult unfortunately) but it's kind of indicative of why these platforms and privacy apps struggle to gain popular traction. You've got fascists above and fascists below, all vying for control over people but what they CAN all agree on is undermining privacy and human rights together. |
