They’re doing an amazing job at actually improving user autonomy (PeerTube, Mobilizon, etc.), raising awareness about autonomy and privacy, reaching out to non-profits that should care about these issues, and more generally putting empowerment front and center. 👍

One of the inspiring initiatives started by Framasoft that’s perhaps little-known outside of France is CHATONS—service hosting “by the people and for the people”, so to speak:
chatons.org/en

Framasoft is no longer involved but this is a natural followup to its “De-googglify the Internet” campaigns, empowering capable users to run their services for others and encouraging mutual help.
