A proposal by the European Commission would let you upload your biometric data to a database for pre-travel controls.
Many of you have told us you share the concerns we raised about the proposed regulation such as data protection risks.
📣 You can participate in a public consultation to voice your opinion until tomorrow (January 8) and share this blog to inform more people about the proposal.

@edri "Once the digital travel credential is created/derived from an existing travel document, it would be stored on the holder’s mobile device. Data subjects therefore remain in control of their own data and choose if and when to use it. If the person chooses to use it for an advance check and facilitated travel, they can submit it, via the application developed and operated by eu-LISA, to the responsible authorities."

No mobile Google/Apple device w/ Play/Apple account? Sorry, you're out… 1/2

@edri 2/2 so not only does this discriminate against those not having a mobile device, or used their choice of running it "tracking free" with a custom ROM and no "store account" – it REQUIRES those using the app to have an account with a US company tracking them via their services.

Objections? Oh, you have something to hide? => stigmatized. Suspect because of valuing your privacy.

And enforcing us to give our data to an US company, outside GDPR directive. Again, violating their own laws.¹

@edri ¹ because we can bet it won't be a FOSS app available freely, not being bound to either the Apple Store or the Google Play Store (not that that would solve the problem entirely).
