Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 05:33:12 The fediverse rules and I plan to stay here as long as I can. But seeing Bluesky carry a similar mission into the mainstream is ABSOLUTELY worth respecting. |
Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 05:57:25 @ernie I do think Bluesky pretty much nailed a lot of UX things that were lacking here. The starter lists and custom feeds are really cool. (I also like how they handle identity but I doubt that's making a dent) If we're going to be the weirdos over here I'd love to see folks doing more weird shit with AP. Folks like @bookwyrm are using the protocol in interesting ways but they still have to bend over backward to accommodate Mastodon and I think that's a shame. |
Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 06:02:14 @ssweeny @bookwyrm 100% agree. If AP isn’t going to be the big mainstream play, make it the incubator. I’m convinced at this point that Threads is just not going to be the game-changer for the fediverse that everyone thought it might be. And it’s because Meta can’t stop stepping on its own userbase. |
Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 16:31:21 @ssweeny @ernie @bookwyrm Agreed. Starter packs and domains as identity are perfecto. Two things that would be game changing for the Fediverse. Two biggest detractors of Mastodon/Fedi have always been what server to join and then how to discover people and be discovered by others. Having your identity tied to a domain instead of a server could partially help with what server to join, as then server choice only becomes an issue of moderation. Starter packs help with discoverability. |
Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 16:43:02 @shellsharks @ernie @bookwyrm I also have a dream of a "generic" ActivityPub server that holds all my AP data, and Mastodon, Bookwyrm, etc are just clients or views of that data. Ideally it would be small enough to self-host or easily move between providers. |
Föderation EN Do 14.11.2024 18:10:39 Help me make that a reality: |
Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 17:33:22 @ernie I am very skeptical of the idea that they have a similar mission. Nonetheless, the more people leave twitter the better, regardless of where they go. |
Föderation EN Di 12.11.2024 17:38:17 @hyperlinkyourheart Let me be clear: Tribalism is bad for the internet. I want both places to succeed. |
