Based on what little we know, IMO, it's likely cloning data and sending it to Musk. It won't *help* anything, only open American aviation to hacking.

Long-planned international flight Saturday. I've been telling friends that it feels like a really uneasy time to be leaving the country. That was before the script kiddie clown show got hold of the reins. If I die in a plane crash, avenge me.

@jeffjarvis Any time before the last couple of weeks I'd say this was an overreaction, that even terrible policy- and decision- makers at the top of agencies are pretty far removed from safety critical and operational systems, with damage (or improvements) only visible over the longer term.

I have a close friend who wanted us all to go to New Zealand at the end of this year. My first reaction when she brought it up a few weeks ago was "You do know we'll be a pariah state by then, don't you?" She's not very engaged with politics so was puzzled. Last week I told her that a. planes are falling out of the sky and b. I'm not sure I'd be able to get back into the country. So I ain't going. It's a shame because she won't be able to travel much by 2029.

I gave up on flying in America two decades ago when the Patriot Act came around. My last was on a small passenger plane with hardly any headroom so that you had to bend over to get into your seat, and all you could really do was sit there.

Trains take longer, but there's much more space on it.
