I remember when Google+ required users to use their real names and required proof of such, but got so much pushback from people who had legitimate reasons for using other non-legal identifying names, that they removed that requirement.

@SnowshadowII @mastodonmigration It's blurred out in the screenshot, but the email is sent to an alias I used only for Bluesky. So it's pretty legit! Unless we have our fist data breach there, of course. But I think that's not the case.

Whoa, it LOOKS like they're asking you to email your passport scan to their support department.

NOBODY DOES THAT

Every stupid little crypto exchange that can't get their security in order still has a 3rd party KYC provider with all of the certifications to handle that stuff.

If they're doing this, I can practically guarantee you that data is going to leak at some point.
