Unless you want every password and financial transaction stored as a local screenshot, you'll need to exclude specific apps and websites from Microsoft Recall. arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/0

@protonprivacy I have a little bit of hope that this is part of a larger strategy to embrace, extend, and then finally extinguish

@protonprivacy Or just don't use Windows....

This is one of the many reasons I haven’t used Microsoft and Google products for years. Started using Linux in 1997, dropped Windows completely in 2001, and added MacOS in 2011.

@chessert @protonprivacy I'm late to the party: I switched ~two weeks ago to Linux Nobara. I was always worried that I won't be able to play games or have a much worse experience.
So far: Why didn't I switch earlier??? Everything works great, with my normal day to day I notice literally 0 difference, and playing is great only with tiny tinkering that basically is "check protonDB and apply fix" and nothing else.
Super happy I made the step.

I also just noticed I can use my YubiKeys for auth!

@leberschnitzel
I never eared about this Linux distribution. I use pop os, which is really good for gaming. I will check Nobara.

The only big issue for Linux is proton drive app missing. That is really problematic for me.

@Seb13 I've tried several distros in a VM first and Pop OS was my second choice, and I've now got a VM running of it for Dev and testing. Nobara just somehow felt right for me.
Also the Discord is very helpful

Right now, only machines having a specific Snapdragon part. AMD/Intel are not affected.

Wonderful resource for a compromised machine. From sounds of it, once past a weak login password, all is lain bare.

@protonprivacy This will be amusing when HIPPA, PCI, and GDPR get their hands on this feature. Ah well, go get ‘em my formless gloppy governmental and pay-system regulators! Embrace, Engulf, Enwetten. ;)

@protonprivacy It's called ai for a reason. A smart user switches from Windows to anything else ... ;-)

@protonprivacy I'm sure there will be an uninstallation option, just like with Edge :)

@protonprivacy even better you can exclude Microsoft Windows from your computer

@protonprivacy I can choose not to use Recall I guess but will the reception computer at my doctor's office have it enabled? Will there be screenshots of my medical and payment information on third party computers? This can't be safe.

@protonprivacy wouldn’t those screenshots show passwords with asterisks?

@arandomselection @protonprivacy Good point, but if you accidentally view a .env file, oh well, yolo.

Or just stop using Windows...

And of course we all trust Microsoft to respect those exclusions? Also trusting them to not also have a networked screenshot "to improve" the windows experience?
