@EricLawton @reece I'm not sure any regulations get passed in the US without the support of the industry being regulated, in the past decade or so. Not at the national level.

If you want to limit smoke stack emissions, coal for instance, you have to make sure all the energy producers are already diversified, want to drop coal as their least profitable, their facilities are grandfathered in and can continue for the expected life of the facility, and then they get tax breaks for decommissioning.

Another part is that they control who gets elected via media ownership.
