#Threads is an app trying to play nice with the Fediverse while attempting to keep all of its corporate shenanigans intact, and keep full control out of the people's hands. Typical.

There's this other place, actually many other places. It's called the #Fediverse where you are not funneled into corporate algorithms and have full control of what you want to see.

The Fediverse is thousands of instances/apps of: #Mastodon #Pixelfed #PeerTube #FunkWhale #BookWyrm #Calckey #Pleroma #Frendica #Ivory #Tusky #Fedilab #Icecubes #KBin and so much more.

Choosing your own content is so much better than having it chosen for you.

@augieray The rich would be the first to run if they could... when it all comes crashing down. But as it stands they have nowhere to go. This pleases me. 😉

The one thing I never realized before Mastodon is how much creativity, intelligence and versatility is actually out there in this world and how well it can coexist.

As a hermit (mostly) I don't get the chance to see it much IRL. Somewhere in the dark recesses of my brain I was losing hope in humanity.

Mastodon literally renewed some of that hope for me.

Here, more people actually care about the details and reporters will have a more fulfilling interaction with their readers.

This is absolutely vital.

Example 1: I'm relatively benign. I left, using a birdcleaning app to delete my posts and strip out followers. Then I can delete it in general safely.

Example 2: I'm a journalist and I mocked Musk. He banned me. All my contact data, posts and follows/followers lists are locked up under his control, but not mine. That data can be used in any number of ways and is backed up by the TOC.

Leaving while you can is of paramount importance!

@RedTRaccoon I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. Unfortunately these kind of threats will become more frequent in the coming months. Especially with Musk's latest move.

@shoq I never imagined the freedom of social media and the Fediverse until I actually showed up here.

I believe it will endure, but I also think that all sources of freeform information and community will come under attack.

We're definitely at the beginnings of an information war. I have to admit I'm worried.
