I make dorky YouTube/PeerTube videos about Linux and vintage tech, and occasionally write about stuff. I'm also a geeky musician and used to be a COBOL dev. Pronouns are she/her.

Proudly supported by viewers like you via Patreon and Ko-Fi. Thank you for your consideration!

(Note: posts here may self destruct, and my notifications are mostly muted- can't reply to everyone. Don't take it personally.)

So the latest @TechConnectify is an important one. I know it's preaching to the choir here, but still.

Related to this topic: YouTube has RSS feeds for channels and Google doesn't surface that like (IMO) they should.

Hereโ€™s a question as Iโ€™m doing research for a future video.

Who is funding the development of the Wayfire compositor?

I wanted to share a screenshot of a dangerous post offline, for reasons.

However, because I'd already suspended the instance which was sending hate my way, I can no longer see the post which caused me to suspend them in the first place. So now, I guess I have to take screenshots of *everything vile that comes my way* in case this happens in the future.

So yeah, go Mastodon I guess- thanks for forcing me to collect my own hate messages?

New life hack:

When the dudes at the home improvement store insist on knowing what you're working on *before* helping you find things, just tell them you're working on an art project.

They'll stop telling you "how you should be doing it", and instead just help you find the thing you're looking for.

I was just told I'm threatening the Ventoy "community" by [checks notes] not mentioning it enough in my video. Had someone say they're coming after my systems now. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Didn't think I was going to be putting up my harassment defenses over a boot tool, but here we are.

There should be a law against this.

Your average user is going to think something is terribly wrong with their computer just because they didn't sign over their rights to Microsoft.

EDIT: added button descriptions to the alt text, sorry for leaving those out when I posted this last night.

A Windows "Let's finish setting up your PC" prompt which takes up the entire screen and says "Your PC needs to be backed up and connected to a few more Microsoft services to help you work more easily and securely across all of your devices", then lists a bunch of their cloud services.

At the bottom are two buttons "Remind me in 3 days" and "Continue".

Pssst: influencers struggle with Mastodon because it's harder to influence people here. It's not because this place isn't neat.

You open up a Commodore 64, and the box says "welcome to the world of friendly computing."

You turn on a modern PC, and it immediately threatens your data unless you agree to save your data to *their* cloud service.

That right there is why we talk about vintage computers. Folks need to be reminded of what's possible.
