Föderation EN Do 20.03.2025 14:55:16 Hello Fediverse! #introduction dComms is a project by eQualitie that provides a curated and secure deployment of decentralized communication tools for civil society including #Mastodon #Peertube #Element #DeltaChat etc. #dComms creates small-world networks for reliable communications in low-bandwidth environments, resistant to censorship and shutdowns. We are now actively working on server deployments in partnership with NGOs in 5 countries and help local communities #migrate to the Fediverse |
Föderation EN Do 20.03.2025 13:59:04 #Signal took a huge bet that running on US big-tech toxic infrastructure is fine because its groundbreaking and industry-shaping cryptography is crafted to neutralize it and keep users safe. But is it really feasible to live on toxic infrastructure in the longer run? #deltachat rather takes a bet on the massive e-mail server network and interoperable protocols, and on #chatmail servers which enforce message encryption and metadata-minimization. Delta is for when centralization turns sour. |
Föderation EN Mo 17.03.2025 09:12:25 For all those looking for messengers that are not controlled by organisations located in countries that are not or no longer democratic: Check out the completely open source #DeltaChat that also is completely independent of any centralised infrastructure. The project tries to be very transparent and the software is a marvelous and open-standards-based architecture (https://blog.feld.me/posts/2025/03/deltachat-is-actually-good-though/). Last not least, the project is security audited (https://delta.chat/en/2024-03-25-crypto-analysis-securejoin) Cc @delta |
Föderation EN Sa 15.03.2025 16:34:03 There is no shortage of startups and enterprises animated by, or outright proclaiming, replacing e-mail as the de-facto open internet messaging standard. VC Investors are forever fascinated by funding such endeavours. #matrix #simplex #slack etc are examples. #deltachat endorses e-mail but reconfigures and repurposes it to serve for interoperable instant messaging. The #chatmail server network relays end to end encrypted e-mail only, and servers are reduced to dumb store-and-forward relays. |
Föderation EN Fr 14.03.2025 20:03:21 OKAY! NOW I think I got @delta to finally work as intended, lol. Took me a bit to figure out how to do that flatpak thing again but it's running. Drop me a comment if you want to chat with me there. #DeltaChat |
Föderation EN Fr 14.03.2025 17:49:29 Another #deltachat release highlight that we didn't tell about yet: De-duplication of attachments and media files. De-duplication means that if you share a larger file to multiple chats, it will only ever exist once in each sending and receiving device's storage. Same for #webxdc apps -- so if you use the 650KB big "v86emu" app running 32-bit ISO images, it will also only exist once in storage, even if each instance in a chat creates its own realtime LAN. Föderation EN Fr 14.03.2025 11:03:14 Having lots of fun using Delta Chat. I've set up two accounts on my mail server, one for myself and one for my husband. We're both surprised at how fast it is compared to more traditional centralised chat apps like Signal. It's so cool to be able to self-host this and not rely on centralised infrastructure that is outside of my control. Now I just need to convince everyone I know it's really cool :) #DeltaChat #Signal #SelfHosted #SelfHosting #Decentralization #Decentralisation #Decentralized #Decantralised |
Föderation EN Do 13.03.2025 07:35:16 I believe I can confirm that Vivaldi Webmail works with Delta Chat. 😇 (Medien: 1) |
Föderation EN Mi 12.03.2025 16:38:41 @feld what's this Deltachat thingy? I'm getting that it uses email underneath it all. But is it any better in UI/UX than, let's say: Element (Matrix) ? |
Föderation EN Mi 12.03.2025 14:24:35 Finally finished moving all my two factor authentication accounts to TOTP app and can now uninstall Authy! You can run it in Delta Chat, Monocles and Cheogram. Some of the services that work fine: - codeberg |
