@juliette Unfortunately, if you want to join local groups, Facebook and Whatsapp are THE instruments. Especially, because they are easy to use.
For most people who are non-techy, non-internet, the Fediverse is too complicated. And local groups or topics live because of the high number of people who don't spend the whole day in the internet or on social media.
I have a silent, sleepy, and passive FB account only for knowing what happens in my region.

@NatureMC @juliette It's not just ease of use, it's the fact that everybody is already there. As long as enshittification doesn't escalate to the point where FB becomes utterly useless, people will keep using it because the real social network, the network of people, is there. Most of the things that we used before FB became so huge, like web forums, are vanishing because nobody uses them anymore because everything is on FB.
