@stux @ShadowJonathan could this potentially lead to a change in policy towards something like approval needed before joining? Kinda like what my instance does? I think it might help stem the tide of things like this in the future. Just a suggestion.

@stux you can at least turn on approvals and screen basic fucking slurs in people's usernames, for fucks sake.
We have less than a dozen moderators and we can keep up with it, no reason to keep it open without approval.

@stux stop being passive aggressive, this is a serious problem, and you're ignoring it.
We get 100 signups a month, if you have even 4x more than that, then that is still reasonable.
Screen your signups for basic slurs.

@stux @ShadowJonathan This could be solved by changing them to "approval required". Are there really so many people signing up every day that the moderation team can't look over them? At least have some system in place to automatically detect bad words in usernames & flag those accounts or something.

i am so thankful when someone gets mentioned and i can click their profile and it goes "the moderators of tech.lgbt have hidden this profile" because it instantly tells me that person probably sucks
