And a lot of red states are only red because they didn't let blue areas vote or because of gerrymandering. Kentucky has a Democratic governor trying to help gay people. He was elected by a majority of voters in the state but the Republican legislature can override his veto because their district maps are designed to dilute democrats in their representation.
