@eri @Yuvalne It got everything an IM needs to have and doesn't try to be what it ain't, so I think it's almost perfect. They're focusing on implementing important features properly first, right now I think they work to detach Signal accounts from mobile phone numbers.

@Natanox @eri @Yuvalne imo the biggest issue with it replacing discord (and matrix etc since they're hardly better) is the total lack of server threads/channels, and total lack of bots.

if it had those i have a feeling a lot more would move.
In our specific case, and that of many plural collectives, it's also an accessibility issue- discord via pluralkit is afaik the *only* way for all members of a collective to effectively have their own 'accounts' interacting with others as individuals, with paired names, avatars, info, etc.

a self-hosted fedi server is the only other option i can think of that's manageable , and that's a pretty difficult technical task for most.

if signal had bots, or there were some other plural alternative, i imagine we might never use discord again.. but as is need it sometimes for validating ourselves , for mental health.

What if the authorities cut off connections to IM operators that don't comply with? Is Signal ready to become an "illegal" organization and to operate anonymously?
