As far as I can tell it's a thing that happens to the higher follow count users.

The high follower count will say something that some random gets mad about and yells at the high follower count person for posting

Matt blaze frequently complains about this happening.

Evacide has also mentioned being afraid about talking about her non-tech personal interests because of people complaining about unexpected posts

And there are regular complaints for black people getting harassed for talking about their personal experiences.

I have a hunch that the old twitters algorithm did sometimes succeed at a tagging posts with a topic and then hiding them from people who weren't interested in that topic.

I think some users don't fully realize they need to take responsibility for curating their feed, and that it's not the people they're following's job to entertain them.
