@apps The best option is missing. As an F-Droid user I think the best option is using UnifiedPush and falling back to the new FOSS embedded FCM distributor for user which don't have UnifiedPush.

I want to double my yes vote with a comment:
Right now I'm having to use two apps for reliable notifications which is rather annoying ^^'
If live notifications weren't important to me I could just switch to polling instead of push notifications

I've learned to live without reliable notifications... nevertheless, sometimes it really sucks, especially when you're in a dialog.
