Federation != Decentralization
If you want proof look at bsky implementation
Mastodon is both federated and decentralized. A community can form in the middle of nowhere without the need to connect to Mastodon.social
That’s not the case in bsky?

@cheeaun they don’t fit in one of those because they are both centralized and federated. 😅 thing is, there’s just a small section in their docs that says this so it’s quite sneaky in my opinion
“You can self host to federate with the wider bsky social network”
