With Zuckerberg the warning signs were there when he set up a site using womenโ€™s photos without consent and invited all the guys to rate them. Maybe that shouldโ€™ve been enough.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 15:38:24

@christineburns Very true. It's taken me a long time to finally realise how awful it is.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 16:55:00

@peterjfullagar @christineburns This is something that have eluded me. He is famous for the "hot or not" thing and the "the trust me, dumb fucks". But even without that he created a platform with unprecedented scandals, tracking, privacy invasion and public manipulation.

How did he manage to keep a lick a popularity is beyond me.

Gates I get, he spent billions in PR to make people forget what a terrible person he was, but zuckerberg didn't manage to. Or did it?

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 19:01:35

@bitecode @peterjfullagar @christineburns
Gates is a bit different because the awful stuff he did with his business was different. People hated paying the Microsoft monopoly tax, but that was the worst most customers experienced. Microsoft under Gates was never the privacy invader Facebook is. And Windows actually improved over the years, while Facebook is a great example of enshitification.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:39:07

@VATVSLPR @bitecode @peterjfullagar @christineburns modern Microsoft is working hard to close the gap tho lol

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:55:35

@itsmeholland @bitecode @peterjfullagar @christineburns
Maybe so, but Gates avoids blame for that because he isn't in charge anymore. To some extent, Gates deserves credit for building a company that remained functional when he passed the reins. Meanwhile, FB gave Zuckerberg shares with disproportionate voting power so he can remain in control for the rest of his life.

Plus, MS drove a lot of innovation in computer technologies

@christineburns and demanded real names in the world that was pseudonyms until then.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 16:19:20

@Thebratdragon @christineburns the trick is to give A real name, not YOUR real name.

And also never go on there, that's what a real winner does.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 15:53:06

@christineburns
That domino meme, where the little domino is "creepy nerd's college friends don't call him out" and the big domino is "giant tech corporation facilitates genocide with impunity"

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 16:18:35

@christineburns that creeper kills goats for fun and thinks he's a 'tough guy'

I am so sick of creepy, immature men running everything.

@christineburns "Mark Zuckerberg is a Creep" -- Cory Doctorow

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:15:38

@lemgandi @christineburns He's an asshole! Damn fuckin predator who in the name of money is abusing lots of innocent women, kids and so on since many years!
This mother*cker should be prosecuted and jailed for many years!
But no one gives a shit about it, because he got money. And who got money, got power.
Badam tss! Curtain!
And all his victims can kiss his ass goodbye. That's it.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 16:51:12

@christineburns hey it was Garvard.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 17:34:24

@christineburns that's why I've never joined Facebook, though my children think I'm being silly. But as a father of three girls and step father of two more. And grandfather of two girls. I believe I should set and example. My grandsons will get told off if they join!

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 21:17:12

@epistatacadam @christineburns that's the thing. facebook is not required by any organism on earth, for any necessary function on earth.

using a tool that provides you a thing called "a feed" which is controlled entirely by a corporation whose number one agenda is to get you looking at ads is insane to me.

it is quite the grift. yet somehow I don't see people calling it what it is: a grift.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 17:46:58

@christineburns Maybe we should try to find out why it wasn't.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 17:48:30

@christineburns

Almost like a ... book ... of faces?

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 17:51:36

@christineburns it DEFINITELY should've been enough, and the crap he said in college has always bugged me, how he can't believe people just give him their data. And the Caesar haircut, it all just adds up to who he really is

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 18:02:46

@christineburns

Everyone should consider deleting or at least suspending their account on the 20th.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 18:06:42

@christineburns

Virtual "pussy grabbing." Funny how that video of Trump warned no one about anything, either.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 18:10:11

@christineburns
Confusion reigned supreme with advent of lads mags & page 3.
Where did society go wrong? Did it go wrong?
Now I find tattoos covering most of a young female extremely unattractive.
Is it me?

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 18:39:10

@christineburns it was enough for me - I've never had an account. I miss out on a lot of family stuff because they insist on communicating through Meta's platforms, which tells me all I need to know about how much I can depend on *them*.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 21:20:59

@akamran @christineburns right. it's same for me.

I have seen a fair bit of addiction in my life. and what I see now is how my family acts with their shared online experience, it has a lot of similarities with what I saw in my teenage years' friend group's shared love of opiates.

pretty alienating, but I am grateful that it makes me skin crawl and has zero appeal.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 19:17:53

@christineburns I still feel a bit bad about not knowing that when I made an account when I was 15

Definitely wouldn't have had I known that history

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 19:18:39

@christineburns So true. I went against my better judgement when I joined.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 19:25:53

They're all rapists in every facet of their being. Assault and control.

Föderation NL Di 07.01.2025 19:26:50

@christineburns THIS!! THANK YOU.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 19:43:29

@christineburns This guy does not want to be put in the position where he has to tell Trump "no". A gutless and gormless decision.

Föderation PL Di 07.01.2025 20:29:59

@christineburns Most FB users have not liked this person for years anyway due to absurd changes (And yes... I found out that Facebook started as a site of this type a few years ago)

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 21:34:51

@christineburns same with snapchat which was 100% created for sexting. Both have douchebag founders who prey on others.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 21:37:10

@christineburns Once a schmuck, always a schmuck.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 21:58:14

@christineburns that's what peter thiel liked about mark. he's a creep.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:01:08

@christineburns And it was. (For Silicon Valleyโ€™s venture capital machine to invest in him.)

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:03:04

@christineburns I remind myself of this fact, and it doesnโ€™t make things make sense, but gives me context that he is who he always was. You make a great point.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:09:21

@christineburns yeah, I mean, at what point was this asshole supposed to be any kind of moral leader, FFS.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:24:27

@christineburns i kept my account to keep up with distant family, which will change as soon as I hop on my laptop, but was under no pretense Zuck himself was anything other than a worm. i can't believe people genuinely bought his "rebrand'.

Föderation EN Di 07.01.2025 22:53:20

@christineburns I was suspicious of Facebook from the start and never made an account. It was just a vibe thing

Learning this later made it all make sense
