@gyptazy That sounds like something I am looking for. A minimalistic blog engine, easy to setup, no themes and templates…
I mean, what do you want to share in a blog? Knowledge, thoughts, howtos…. These things don’t require fancy graphics or pictures.

Thanks for providing!

@NebulaTide happy to hear and thank you! If you like to see a real-life example, my BoxyBSD.com project uses it (with dark theme).

@gyptazy This was my first thought, that you are using it there. When I first visited the projects site, I thought: Wow, this is cool, want this too....

Föderation DE Do 05.12.2024 16:23:21

@NebulaTide awesome! In the past, I also had my personal blog on that engine (you can still find it in the archive at web.archive.org/web/2023120822). Unfortunately, I got told that this is a way "too geeky" (even on conferences) and some people didn't understand this or even asked if the site is broken (or immediately left it again). Sure, I'm targeting deep tech people but also try to convince beginners and this means to make them comfortable and not to scare them away - which resulted in a completely different and modern design.

@gyptazy I think you chose the right path so as not to put people off. But personally I prefer something that it easy to use and simply does the job. I still remember how much effort it was to maintain a Wordpress site, not talking about the security issues that came up regularly.

But yes, it's a bit of nerdish.....

@gyptazy hell yeah. I've been envying the style of your old blog for a while!

Might be time for me to set one up.

@oxyhyxo sometimes I think I should go back to the design :)

Föderation DE Do 05.12.2024 16:07:18

@gyptazy The live demo under manpageblog.org/ can't be found.

@gyptazy slightly disappointed it does not support mdoc!

More seriously though I don't understand why web versions of man pages are often typeset with fixed width fonts. Roff is a typesetting engine after all! I like mandoc's web output: man.openbsd.org/doas.1

@gyptazy@mastodon.gyptazy.com how come you went to mastodon from snac?

Föderation DE Fr 06.12.2024 10:35:39

@i first, I regret it and it was a mistake. I should have kept instead of (and I wrote it already several times). If you run a single user instance - don’t use Mastodon. I was one of the early adaptors of snac and also contributed to the project but back in that time, the API was very limited and several clients didn’t work or were limited in display posts (as in a kind of count). The current releases are much better and work great - especially for single user instances and @grunfink is doing an absolutely great job (thank you very much for your work!).

I’m planning to switch back to snac (it finally can do “move” actions where you’re not locked-in anymore) but switching the instance on the same domain means a three-way movement to not break the users crypto keys. There’s also a self destroy possibility, but that mostly only works on Mastodon. Snac cannot interprete this (but according to grunfink the keys are resourced in a few days, so it shouldn’t be a problem) but not quite sure about other solutions like GTS etc. So, the smoothest way is to migrate to a tmp instance on another domain and the create an instance on this domain and move back again. If I have time, I’ll do so.
