Not even the Leader is good enough. What the Leader has, though, is the right to dispense absolutions for those character flaws.

This danger of being stripped of them keeps people fearful, and thus loyal. But it also traps the Leader himself to a mold he might not quite fit.

This was well enough known that Hitler freely admitted it in interviews.
