I won a contest @libreoffice held, and I got all this KILLER LibreOffice swag from them.

I've used LibreOffice for so many years, from back in the mid 2000s when it was OpenOffice. It's better than Microsoft Office. It's totally free and open source, and you don't have to be logged in like you do now with Office.

Try it out if you haven't, you won't regret it.

@GamingWolf it's SO useful. I have it on my Windows 10 laptop, after Microsoft started requiring sign-ins, and I've had this laptop with 10 on it for 5+ years now, I BOUGHT IT with 10 on it and just left Office on it, I was using it for school. I was SHOCKED when Microsoft wanted me to log in, to start charging me for Word and Excel. Unbelievable. LibreOffice is the only way for me on that now, and probably in the future for other machines. I'm not paying Microsoft to use Word and Excel hahaha

@GamingWolf yeah, true, and it's the way of everything now I guess. That's why I love my older XP machine here, it's so solid. And of course I use 10 for work and I'm sure they'll switch to 11 soon, but that's on them. No 11 for me on my personal machine(s). And they keep NAGGING hahaha

I endorse this message. I used OO then LO for >20 years. Sent thousands of freelance pieces to various mags and websites, never had any compatibility issues.

@jake4480 Libre Office is so good! I can't imagine my day to day without Libre Office, it's one of the first programs I always install.

@maxalmonte14 for real. I did OpenOffice all those years ago and recently getting back into LibreOffice has been SO great.

@jake4480 @libreoffice so I’ve tried it on and off since it was Open Office. Just downloaded it and unfortunately its UI is lifted from MS Office. Mainly scatter-shot of every function you may need in two rows of buttons across the top all demanding the same attention with little differentiation beyond the skeuomorphic item itself. Anecdotally I’ve used MS Office for 30 years and still have issues finding the thing I need.

As a note I do UX for a living.

@fistfulofdave 😂 does have a Microsoft-y feel now, yeah. And same, I've used it since OpenOffice. But it's such bs that Microsoft wants to charge for Office now, this laptop I've used for 5+ years that I paid for this version of Windows 10 then that was installed on it - no way am I paying Microsoft for Word or Excel. And LibreOffice is so similar, I don't need it for crazy complex things on my personal laptop. Just basic word processing and spreadsheet stuff. So it's nice. But yeah, the UI is very reminiscent hahaha

@jake4480 oh if I’m choosing between MS Office and LibreOffice I’m using the latter. Now I use the Apple Equivalent to these, and for me the interface is much better. Now I can use the Apple suite for work as I can import and export to MS Office, seems LibreOffice only imports or am I missing something?

@fistfulofdave @jake4480 I'm pretty sure LO will export to a version of MS, but maybe not the latest and greatest. Which is fine. It used to have issues with the x format, but that was a while ago...

@fistfulofdave @jake4480 LibreOffice can definitely save in .docx format (and many others). BTW, did you try the tabbed version of the user interface? (Under the menu, View > User Interface). Feel free to also let our @libodesign community know your feedback!

@jake4480 @fistfulofdave Well, to give Microsoft SOME credit, they have contributed some innovations of their own throughout the years. Office was their best and brightest project, hands down. Their desktop design is still in wide use today by a variety of environments...

@jake4480 Swag is nice. I use LibreOffice as well. It's come a long way. I have absolutely no interest in Microsoft's product anymore except for Visio perhaps. But I'm sure there is a nice FOSS diagramming program out there I've yet to come across...

@wendigo oh awesome. Yeah, I should really get better at it, but it's super easy to use. She's always finding amazing free stuff to use at work, since they're cheap and the tools they give her are limited. Also have we talked about goblin.tools? Maybe the only good use of AI I've seen - the links at the top - so many wild tools here haha

Libre Office works just fine for my private stuff. In our small business I would love to move to Libre Office as well, however, we cannot cope without real-time co-authoring.
