Been on this planet for a bit now; still trying to figure it out.

What keeps me informed, amused, or up at night: climate and the environment, news and journalism, human evolution and ancient history, politics, wildlife, photography, cycling, piano, guitar, español, français.
Oh, and a sucker for bad puns.

Today in the Toronto Star . . .
@deadder

Cartoon: a curling rink. Trump has thrown a curling stone labelled ‘despotism’ down the ice. Five people are sweeping the stone, helping it along. They are in black robes and a briefcase beside one of them is labelled ‘Supreme Court’. Some of the sweepers faces are recognizable as individual Supreme Court justices (Thomas, Kavanaugh, Alito). Trump’s stone is heading directly for an opposing stone, labelled ‘democracy’ resting in the centre of the target rings.

@ivory
Now that you guys have introduced a quote feature, could you consider creating a separate icon for it? It would eliminate the extra step it now takes to boost (or quote) a post. Thanks!

How to win at chess

A chess board with several white pieces (king, queen, bishop, pawns) but only one black piece. The black piece is made up of several black pieces glued together using two rooks as a base, two bishops on top of the rooks to form legs, the king and pawns as torso, and knights, queen, and pawns as outstretched arms. The concoction is three times as tall as any regular piece, and looks like a menacing creature resembling a transformer from the movie looming over the board.

Just in case anyone thought those off-the-chart ocean temperatures were just a brief blip, they weren’t.
