@zleap , maybe not, but I really think we should expect more. I think there is a risk of just accepting this kind of thing and I think if people react, by moving away and/or making noise, it can have an impact. Clearly this should be illegal.

@jon @zleap Even more worrying to me is if they end up doing the same with WhatsApp. A *lot* of people use it in the Global South, and many rely on it for their small businesses. I'm not sure how big FB Messenger is these days, but WhatsApp is huge.

They'd have a treasure trove of training data.

@jon Not sure if anyone’s spotted this yet, but WhatsApp turns off by default a new setting called 'Advanced Chat Privacy' in all chats—even groups—which references its AI
