Mastodon is so much better than X. But it has its own problems with toxicity as well.

There are all types of people here, and no screening process so yes, you will come across as you say "toxic people", but you can block and if needed, report.

Well Musk was but everyone I know blocked and reported him.
Trump's account lasted a few days but was fedi blocked

@jon When I used to listen to the radio and I didn't like a song, I'd simply adjust the tuner and find a song playing on a different station. If you view X, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, etc. as stations playing songs, it's similar. I don't think a narrow horse blinder focus on the world is good. Forming an echo-chamber doesn't help either. In life, you often have to navigate through the thorn bushes to get to your destination. I'm still on all of the socials, but I interact on Mastodon the most.

Overall I believe in collecting information and thus I read a lot of stuff I do not agree with. I consider it to be important. There we agree.
On X, that is getting really hard though. It just goes so far. The amount of misinformation and hate speech far outnumbers anything else there, given the algorithms that decide what content you see. I can go there to verify that is still the case, but that is as much as I can do at this time. I also believe it is my duty to warn people about what kind of environment that is there.
I think people are better off here.

@jon I've never really experienced much of an issue on X / Twitter - no hate speech, etc., but it's probably due to the accounts I've followed over the years. Elon Musk is the only account I've blocked. My home feed usually remains clear of politics - it's mostly tech, science, art, and music comments I see. The algorithm mainly feeds me more comments on these topics. The reason I migrated away from X in 2022 was because I knew it wouldn't be long before user content was scraped to train AI.
