@meredithw I'd love to know where this was posted originally. Thanks!

Föderation EN Mi 26.02.2025 19:10:47

@jkramersmyth I found it on FB. Don't know where it was posted originally. You might be able to find it by doing a search on TerpTheatre on various social media.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 05:20:02

@meredithw @jkramersmyth This is allegedly a link to the original tweet, but it doesn’t work for me (and I have no desire to figure out why Xitter doesn’t work; happy to just not go there). x.com/TerpTheatre/status/11186

The OP might well be from this org: terptheatre.org

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 05:23:12

@whybird @jkramersmyth Yes, he's from that org, which sounds like a wonderful resource.

@meredithw
I sure hope this story is true but these is no factual data presented.

Lets all work to up the quality of news articles.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 01:19:52

@mral I saw verification elsewhere.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 01:32:14

@meredithw
lets pass that on here. Healthy inquiring minds what to know:-)

it needs to become a standard; news articles have footnotes that point to the referenced material.

It's common practice in academic circles and needs to become common practice in .

It also provides attribution to the original authors, a prime principle in the Free/Libre Open Source Software business model.

is more than voting.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 02:34:39

@mral I wasn't reporting this as news. I was sharing something I thought other people might find of interest and worth considering in their own work.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 13:52:56

@meredithw
It is only interesting and worthy of sharing if it true and maybe in the past we could assume such but in todays world we need to see the facts otherwise it has to be treated as creative , a story with a moral.

It's sad that our world has de-evolved this way.The rise of fake-news is deceiving us instead of entertaining us but we all have to pay a price to fix it and the sooner we start the less the bill will be.

I am glad we can have this friendly discourse.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 18:44:18

@mral @meredithw Sorry I think that's overly simplistic. There's a reason "stories with a moral" are popular in both secular and spiritual circles.

Fact-check the hare and tortoise race?

Stories are useful learning tools for people to see a situation from another point of view - often one that doesn't threaten them in the same way as a more on-the-nose narrative involving them directly.

This might be a description of events that really happened, but it serves a useful purpose none-the-less.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 01:13:11

@meredithw based beyond belief.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 01:20:33

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 03:01:31

@meredithw I love this. Thank you for sharing it.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 03:59:47

@meredithw I'd stay for that lecture, it sounds like it was probably pretty good.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 05:07:06

@meredithw

"Call the interpreter... but not for me"? :D

Nice that people did stay for it though. But given the topic of the talk, it would have been weird if they did /not/. It just was slightly more on point than normal I guess~

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 07:38:28

@meredithw
Plot twist: the spectators were all deaf people, including a French guy who didn't understand a word because of the lack of an interpreter.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 13:51:35

@elCelio, hmm, interpreters… well, if that French person were instead British (I can only speak for British here; other nationalities may be relevant), it seems very likely to me that there'd be an issue of ASL vs. BSL there.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 14:02:43

@meredithw sublime.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 14:27:20

@meredithw I need to learn sign language just to do this. 🀩

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 15:51:30

@meredithw Can you imagine sitting there and having no idea what is being said?

This is brilliant. Thank you for sharing.

Föderation · Do 27.02.2025 16:15:03

@meredithw
That's horrible...He did the right thing.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 16:34:58

@meredithw

Turnabout is fair play.

Föderation EN Do 27.02.2025 18:01:38

@meredithw Holy wow. You talk about fucking soliderity.

Good on them for all staying. :)

Föderation EN Fr 28.02.2025 02:22:32

@meredithw This is just perfect! And kudos to everyone who stayed.

By the bye, the first time I spoke in public, outside a classroom or small meeting with coworkers, someone requested an ASL interpreter.

Everything was going fine, and then about halfway through I caught a glimpse of the interpreter--signing MY words! I got totally distracted!

Had to pause, apologize, and double-check my slide to find my place again.

Totally worth it. The audience was cool.
