@nixCraft Not all A.I features are useless to be honest, they do help a lot. But integrating A.I to every corner of the world is madness. I saw an ad of an A.I refrigerator and an AI air conditioner.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:17:04

@nexus_r21 @nixCraft not for a lot of people they aren't. Is it useful, or did you just believe someone who said it was?

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 17:57:39

@noodlemaz @nixCraft I use duckduckgo, and it's A.I feature helped me alot.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 18:07:02

@nexus_r21 @nixCraft how?
Like honestly how. I use DDG specifically because I can turn that shit off, when you can't on Google.
Uses way more energy than a normal search.
Is it really doing anything you can't do yourself?

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:31:20

@nexus_r21 @nixCraft machine learning for fridges and AC isn't that useless, if they learn how to anticipate users' needs and cool slower or in colder times of the day with higher COP it might mean decent power savings. If AI in this case instead it's meant some llm chatbot to turn them on or off, well, that's something else

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 18:00:29

@Waslich @nixCraft Where would they get the data to train the A.I model further? I think you've guessed it till now, it's the users.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 18:16:51

@nexus_r21 @nixCraft but that's the point. Learn the user's needs to serve them in a more efficient way, if done properly no data leaves the user's home

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 17:16:45

@nexus_r21 @nixCraft well musk is well on his way to controlling it all through ai, me thinks. But what do I know. I agree is has its purposes. Is there a way to turn it off?

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 18:03:07

@lillyfinch @nixCraft Can be simply avoided by not depending on A.I too much, when we depend on A.I for everything instead of using our brains, that's where we become slaves.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 15:49:09

@nixCraft
Change that "disable" to "delete."

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:03:09

@nixCraft @chu What's the old joke about MS Office? With every major upgrade you spend the first day after installation trying to work out how to turn everything 'new' off.

Iow, increasingly with software you can just delete the AI in that graphic and it's nearly as pertinent.

Föderation DE Mi 14.05.2025 16:27:04

@JonnyT @nixCraft @chu

Clippy 4.0 on Speed, but equally annoying.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:27:10

@JonnyT @nixCraft

Right?

The software bloat is unreal. Once I get through my thesis defence, I am going to turn my machine into some kind of open source OS. I am tired of this.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:13:19

@nixCraft Thats exactly what I feel when I use firefox ....

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:18:44

@nixCraft please Please PLEASE use our AI! We pay so much for it.

So if you don't want it we will force it on you.

Föderation TR Mi 14.05.2025 16:21:52

@nixCraft Ai can be prerty useful sometimes too, but companies are trying to rush and not be late to join the ai train. Which makes them not think about what to implement and they end up adding something annoying.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 16:25:17

@nixCraft if only I could figure out how to turn off the Gemini shit that's magically appeared on my phone and replaced the assistant ...

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 17:10:46

@nixCraft My new keyboard has a Windows Copilot button instead of a R Ctrl button, I literally had to download a dev program to rebind it.

Föderation EN Mi 14.05.2025 17:54:20

@nixCraft
Gawd, my Samsung phone just forcibly put its "Gemini" AI bullshit on my phone with an update. EXACTLY this scenario played out.
