@laurenshof @theconversationau I would be very interested to learn why they made this decision.

In particular, external links clicked on Mastodon don’t show the traffic originates from Mastodon. As a result, Mastodon can be seen as a wasteland in terms of traffic, when it’s not. (I put this "feature" under the "All the things where Mastodon shot itself in the foot" folder).

@o_simardcasanova @laurenshof @theconversationau Yeah less convinced it is likes / comments on the platform itself rather than *measurable* click through: post.lurk.org/@rra/11257027089

@rra @laurenshof @theconversationau If you have a website or a blog from which you derive any sort of revenue, likes and comments are mostly irrelevant. What you want is to see how much traffic comes from where.

I’ve raised this issue multiple times. I was immediately shunned and being told that "people like me" (i.e., people who make part of their living on the Internet) aren’t "welcome" on Mastodon.

Still convinced the issue rather lays in messurable data is being put on a pedestal to attract advertising opportunities.
