It’s an old play going back a hundred years. The Republicans deliberately use the words incorrectly as an insult (as they so often do with language), so it’s important to get it right. Bernie is not a Democrat (noun, a person). He’s an independent who ran for the Democratic (adjective, descriptor) nomination for president.
