So what is the ideal we should be aiming for?

That ideal is one server per user.

That seems like a crazy high bar, but at least we should aim for it, because in terms of UX, that in fact is the ideal for everyone involved.

This requires making self-hosting extremely inexpensive. That means #Mastodon is a big no-go. It's way too resource intensive.

The server also needs to make it simple to migrate from one domain name to another.

It should be easy, in other words, for me to change from @crib.social to something else, without losing any accounts, posts, or followers.

These are the kinds of changes that are needed for the #Fediverse to compete and win in the social network battle.

@taoeffect

>Monetization features using cryptocurrency. And it must be cryptocurrency. Either #LightningNetwork or #Monero / #XMR

I experimented with this in my project Mitra: https://codeberg.org/silverpill/mitra
That server can process Monero payments for paid subscriptions.

It's also lightweight and easy to install, good for small instances.

>Real account migration (posts and all)

We are working on it as well. Mitra doesn't support full data migrations yet, but there are other projects that have complete implementation.

One of them is Forte:
