@pixelfed okay I worked out what I was doing wrong on the android app. It asks for server domain. I was giving my @username@domain. When I just gave the domain, it somehow found my account on my server and then sought authorisation. Not sure how it did matched the serer domain to my account on that domain. But it did and it's now working
