@trans_rescue any guess on if a passport issued today in "X" will still be valid in a year or two?

Föderation EN Sa 26.10.2024 21:43:58

@old_angry_queer we avoid guessing, but it's consistent with Project 2025 that it won't be. There are already a number of countries you can't transit with one (Dubai comes to mind).

Föderation EN Sa 26.10.2024 23:02:47

@old_angry_queer @trans_rescue canada issues passports with X but indeed many countries won't accept it , and may instead bar transit or simply refer to you by your physical presented gender

Föderation EN Sa 26.10.2024 23:13:37

@trans_rescue i am not in a good position to do so of the moment

Föderation · Mi 06.11.2024 08:21:54

@trans_rescue@mastodon.social I have a passport right now, and I need to move to Switzerland if Trump wins (which seems ultra likely right now) I have a girlfriend who is a natural born Swiss citizen, and I would love to live with her

@trans_rescue Am I missing something? In my understanding a passport will allow you to visit other countries. But not to stay in other countries. For that you need (where available) the right kind of visa, or the right to reside, and that is highly variable.
If you can prove you have been or are at risk of being persecuted by the laws in your own jurisdiction you may be able to ask for asylum. Difficult and expensive to prove, and very risky. Unlikely anyone applying to country in Europe for asylum from USA would receive anything other than a giggle by way of reply. β€œBut you come from The Land of the Free….πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚????”

Föderation EN Mi 06.11.2024 10:09:48

@ringwoodunitarians
You are largely correct - to take the NL as example, I'm sure the asylum seeker would be diverted to the expedited removal track and, after a year or two in bad conditions in an AZC, fail their credible fear interview. Largely because of the "land of the free" mentality.
Proof is much harder than generally realized, and few/no US Trans people meet the 8 criteria test of credible fear.

Föderation EN Mi 06.11.2024 10:14:14

@ringwoodunitarians it is the consideration that there are other countries outside of USA, inclusive of Europe/Schengen, that Americans can visit and reside in, even on tourist visas. In theory one could transit around outside the US for an extended period of time. Sadly this requires money, outside of one having employment not from their visiting country (though that is a risky endeavor to work even physically WITHIN a country that you do not have a work permit/visa to do so in, some may require a digital nomad visa in that case; ex Portugal I believe).
