Russia must continue paying a high price for its actions.

We welcome the Council's adoption of the 16th Russia sanctions package.

The new measures target key sectors of the Russian economy, including energy, trade, transport, infrastructure, and financial services.

We will continue taking decisive action to ramp up pressure and ensure full implementation of our sanctions.

Our support to Ukraine is unflinching.

@EUCommission who is paying a high price is the UE. UE needs to free up from USA.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 09:41:01

@spla @EUCommission the price you're paying doesn't come from sanctions, but from the financial speculations on the gas market, which in Europe is not working right, and they are already moving towards a different solution

Point your fingers at the banks and energy companies making record profits, not at those few politicians who are not backed by Russian and American oligarchs.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 09:13:57

@EUCommission why double standard? Why no santions to Israel but weapons instead? Why palestians lifes are less value tha uncranians?

Medien: 1

Föderation ES Di 25.02.2025 10:37:13

@El_clasicista @EUCommission In the case of Gaza it's both Palestinian and Israeli lives which are in danger. Hamas started this war by brutally massacring over 1000 Israeli civilians in the biggest terrorist attack in recent history. Then the far right Netanyahu reacted with an even bigger genocide against Gazans killing 40000 people without even defeating Hamas. This is not a situation in which we want to take sides with one terrorist or the other. We want to take side with the people who are caught between the two warring factions. Europe can do little to apply weapon sanctions on Israel because Israel gets most of its weapons from the US (that is from Trump). There is an ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu. Probably more sanctions will come. The most important thing is aid for the people.

Föderation ES Di 25.02.2025 11:37:06

@graybeard85 @EUCommission that's sionist propaganda, anything starts october7, it started 80 years ago. You said EU can't choose side of both terrorist, but It is actually chosing Israely side sinc it is not makind bussines with hamas but it does with genocide team. Europe can do A LOT with sanctions to Israel, to force Netanyahu to give up the killing, as we do with Putin. The only reason of doble standard is geopolitical

Föderation ES Di 25.02.2025 10:26:28

@EUCommission Has anybody made an assessment of the previous 15 rounds of sanctions?
Russia has managed to grow its economy much more than the EU has.
Putin has an excuse to hold on tightly to power.
War and death continue in Ukraine.
Maybe it allows for liberals in Europe to sleep better. A meager outcome at best.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 11:52:42

@dacig Sources for your claim on economy?

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 12:02:47

@dacig That seems to be a projection. Would be great to see their sources as well - if it's based on russian official info, ohwell.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 12:11:09

@richlv tradingeconomics.com/euro-area tradingeconomics.com/russia/gd You can do your own research, but many economists agree that the sanctions have had limited effects on Russias economy. The high energy prices have however impacted growth in Europe.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 12:15:00

@dacig That sounds like living in a russian disinfo space :)

Additionally, "You can do your own research, but many economists agree" is a terrible way to start pretty much anything.

One of the simplest measures for the effectiveness of sanctions is how much russia squeaks about them.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 12:20:27

@richlv You asked for sources, they are there. Neither the IMF nor the BBC are known Russia sympathisers. Tradingeconomics is a vanilla data source. And yes Russias Economy is not doing too bad, Europe is stagnating.
Please do respect other people, engaging with the sources/facts, not witha a "Squakometer" please, it makes you look bad.

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 12:36:29

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 10:39:40

@EUCommission Maybe you should start by fixing this embarrassing situation: "EU spends more on Russian oil and gas than financial aid to Ukraine โ€“ report"

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 10:53:54

@EUCommission - Use the BILLIONS of Russian assets at Euroclear to rebuild UKR or.... to fund an EUROPEAN ARMY !!!!

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 11:02:38

ยปLast year, the EU states spent more on fossil [and likely nuclear] fuels from Russia than on financial aid to Ukraine. This is the result of a study by the research institute CREA. [...] While Germany's share is close to zero, the study identifies Hungary, France, Slovakia and Spain as the largest buyers of fossil fuels from Russia in terms of value.ยซ

Föderation EN Di 25.02.2025 11:55:39

@pa27 @EUCommission Canada canโ€™t provide the volume Europe needs, and the only refineries that can process tar-sands oil are in the USA.
