Not many people know this, but Mastodon has a built-in official post scheduling system which can publish posts at pre-arranged times and dates.
Unfortunately there's no official interface for the scheduler yet, so you have to use a third party app to access the scheduler. These third party apps let you use it:
Android: Tusky, Fedilab, Moshidon & Subway Tooter
iPhone/iPad: Mona
π Web: https://plan.fedilab.app

@FediTips The web tool doesn't load
Föderation EN Fr 27.12.2024 18:27:53
That's possibly because I just linked to it and the post got widely distributed, this can overwhelm websites for a short while. It should come back online soon.
It was working fine just before I made the post.

Your instance is just your server, so in your case that would be mastodon.online

@FediTips
Would LOVE to see this available on the default WebUI.

If you're comfortable using Github, give a thumbs up here if you want to see an official web interface:

@FediTips
Thx. Hopefully, now done!
Föderation EN Fr 27.12.2024 18:33:19
@FediTips Buffer lets you schedule posts for Mastodon and has a free service level for scheduling up to 10 posts a time. It has apps for both Android and iOS.

Maybe this could be useful for #activists Schedule your post. Then go to the planned #demonstration without your phone. During the demonstration the scheduled post will be posted with some more gory details about policies of the company or government you are demonstrating against. π€
Or when you want to be the very first to post at 00:00 on April's Fools Day without losing sleep. π Yes, sometimes we need a little humor in these times of hardship.

Nice! Any plans on when you might leave beta?
Föderation EN Fr 27.12.2024 19:49:58
@FediTips I have less than 200 testers and the testflight limit is a few thousand so I'm content to avoid the apple review ordeal for now. Plus I should really get push notifications and deep links in before an official release but I'm avoiding that so far, it's more fun focusing on the fediverse features! To muddy the waters, my developer renewal is in November so then I'll have to think about whether I want to keep paying apple a hundred dollars a year for the privilege of release free apps.

@FediTips If you want to, that'd be great! I don't necessarily need a ton of users but I put a lot of work into getting it working with different platforms and exposing the features they support (just added neodb recently) so it'd be nice if they know there's an ios client available for them. Feditext (formerly Metatext) is also still on testflight so I'm kind of going with I'll release when they release.
Föderation EN Fr 27.12.2024 20:10:43
Okay, makes sense. It's your baby, you take it out of beta when it feels ready to you π

I can use this as an alibi when Iβm out robbing old ladies π

Wait, Fedilab have scheduling abilities??
Föderation EN Fr 27.12.2024 23:54:03
A useful feature would be to have a timer.
When it times out, the post is released.
An additional feature would be to restart the timer if it has not already expired.

@FediTips Great! Will you also edit your post?
Föderation EN Sa 28.12.2024 20:16:51
If I can avoid it, I tend not to edit a post when a lot of people have shared it, as it triggers edit notifications for them.
But when I do the next post about that topic I include the apps listed in the article (which is what happened with this post, it is an expanded version of an older post).
Föderation EN Sa 28.12.2024 04:46:12
Iβve got a few more that offer post scheduling!
Radiant, Trunks, SoraSNS, Fedicat all offer it. These are iOS.
The feature can be a bit hidden, via long press on the post button or in a sub menu after entering a few characters, that kind of thing.
Trunks is available on android and web as well.
Thereβs an app called Tootlater on the App Store but I havenβt tried it personally.
Honestly surprised Phanpy and Elk donβt have itβ¦
