Ethos Capital, located in the United States, now manages almost every word-based domain name extension on the Internet.

If more people had some good sense, they would use country extension domain names.

But everyone wants that cool domain, for example, random dot social, as opposed to random dot ch.

Corporate America, governed under Us Law, is going to have a lot more oversight on the Internet, and many of you are not paying attention.

Many people, unfortunately, do not read legal documentation. It has become human nature to simply click "OK, I agree".

If more folks did read their terms of services, you would know word-based domain name extensions are not managed the same way as normal with the protection of ICANN.

As it stands now, if Donald Trump really lost his mind, he could shut down much of the Fediverse.

He cannot shutdown mastodon.la :blobaww:

The domain is out of reach, in another country :ablobaww1:

Someone had published a list of Fediverse servers not located in the US.
Maybe someone could repost it please.

Föderation ES Di 01.04.2025 16:22:15

@maddad I doubt this is about actual location but more about the legal control over the given TLD

Maybe this will help:
fedi.garden/fediverse-servers-

@FediTips are the servers on this fedi garden website list sorted by actual location, or theme? I know ours is in the US but is not listed in the North America or even US category, so it must be theme-based categories?

@elduvelle @maddad @pthenq1

I list the servers by where they say they are serving, so a server for Belgians would get listed under Belgium.

I'm not trying to make any claims about the physical location of the hosting hardware 🙂

I think you can check physical locations of the hardware itself by looking up a server on fedidb.org
