I worded that poorly, we're about to launch a new Pixelfed flagship instance that is hosted in the EU and will compliment our other 2 flagship (pixelfed.social, pixelfed.art) servers.

We're partnering with a EU funded, fediverse focused entity, on this new flagship, while we continue hosting our 2 other flagships.

We are working to fix account migration so you can transfer your posts, followers and more to your new Pixelfed instance ✨

@dansup@mastodon.social (I tried to reply to the earlier message but you deleted it while I was typing)

So, do the rest of us who are running Pixelfed servers just give up now? We've all been your champion for the product but now you are launching your own empire of 'flagship' servers, with a stack of cash behind you, is that it for us?

I have to be honest... I enjoy(ed) running PixelFed, but it's more and more frustrating. I get zero contribution for running a Pixelfed server. All costs are met by me alone. That is my choice, and I accept that, but it would appear we are being outcast more and more.

@bumble Why would you give up? There is nothing to stop users from joining a community they want to join, no amount of funding could replace authentic communities.

Think about that.

@dansup
That is a very welcomed change and feature to provide all Pixelfed pixies.

Like for account migration, especially for ability to transfer posts, too. Dislike for another "flagship" server. Help federated servers moderate, don't steal their part in the network.

@osma Why not both? We should help existing instances (not only Pixelfed instances) moderate but also help European users that want to use Pixelfed to have a "official" instance hosted in the EU by an EU funded entity.

That would also help new users to start in Pixelfed and strengthen the decentralisation of the whole network.

Flagships don't benefit the network. You can see that with mastodon.social, which is a moderation problem for most other servers. There already are EU resident Pixelfed servers, but Pixelfed is (reportedly) difficult to host due to weak admin and moderation tools.
