I'm just getting started with FediDB Onboarding!

Now:
fedidb.com/welcome

Soon:
- Find accounts to follow based on interests
- Suggested Apps/Clients
- Starter Kits
- Fediverse Library (tips & tricks for software)
- Internationalization

Removing barriers to entry so we can better compete with more established players, while also building several platforms is the game.

You already know my name.

🚀

@dansup Thank you for your hard work 🫡

Some feedback:
- NeoDB should be categorized as specialized content
- It would be interesting if there's a way to directly see alternative of non-federated social media, similar to Alternativeto.net website. It doesn't need to be complex, but a mere listing.
It can also be expanded to other SNS like IMDB, Letterboxd, MyAnimeList, Weibo, QQ, Kaskus, Mixi, etc.

@dansup Hell yeah, love this

@dansup If I click “Photography”, your website tells me that Pixelfed is the “best” platform for sharing photos on the Fediverse. It also suggests that it’s the *only* one, because nothing else is suggested.

But when I visit the hashtag I can see a beautiful and unending stream of amazing photos from people using all kinds of federated platforms.

I’m sure you didn’t mean to direct all focus on Pixelfed through this tool, but wanted to point out that’s what’s happening currently.

@adam Yeah so this onboarding tool uses the community curated data from communityDB, not all projects are fully labelled yet.

Vernissage should appear, though it doesn't meet the > 500 users constraint here

We are in the process of overhauling the onboarding process given the feedback we received, though I do want to mention Vernissage is properly listed on the Software page!

@dansup That’s great info. For the software, do you envision categorization reflecting actual use or intended use? For instance, would you accept a PR adding "image-sharing" to Mastodon given that most photos are shared on the Fediverse with Mastodon, or would you be inclined to reject it because Mastodon is not necessarily purpose-built for image sharing?

Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 08:02:54

@adam Great question, I would accept such a PR, though I think we need to also add a feature matrix for each software so you know exactly what types of content and features are supported!

On the software page, you should be able to toggle any types of content you want, and it should filter accordingly, rather than generic labels like "Microblogging" or "Photo Sharing", what do you think?
