A question for developers.

Has ChatGPT replaced Google (or other search engine) when you need to look up something about a development project, environment, etc.?

I'm tired of people using the term "podcast" when I can't find it at the place where I get my podcasts.

Prediction: A new social web will spring up in a blogroll of all places.

# Understanding AP and RSS

I've been trying to figure out what ActivityPub does that RSS doesn't.

Off the top of my head, it's not the ability to syndicate, RSS already does that. I can follow anyone on any server.

I think it's the timeline? And the ability to delete posts. Keeping all that in sync is a lot of work, and presumably a lot of traffic?

Also replies. If I reply to a post when viewing it on another server, the reply should show up under any other view of that post.

What else??

Yesterday I sent a message to people who follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, asking which networks people check first, which they get the most out of. This is what I learned.

Yesterday or the day before there was a meeting with people from "Meta" about their plans to support ActivityPub. A bunch of people I follow went there saying they'd report on what transpired.

But I've been looking for a report and have yet to find one.

Any pointers appreciated. ;-)

A little advice about social media from someone who has been on social media since it has existed. You don’t have to argue. When someone wants to argue with you, you should block them. There is no good outcome possible from arguing on social media.

Here's a weird idea, why not use email to build a social network.
