Föderation EN So 08.12.2024 14:03:18 Iโm doing a training next month on decentralized social media, #fediverse, etc. for a group that isnโt entirely tech-focused. Some tech, some creative, some finance, etc. What are the best #Mastodon and #ActivityPub explainers or resources youโve seen on the web? If you could hand someone a single resource to explain the idea of federation to someone who is not technical and has no prior knowledge, what would it be? |
Föderation EN So 08.12.2024 14:09:20 @developerjustin I think @FediTips is usually the go-to for this stuff? |
Föderation EN So 08.12.2024 14:15:39 Hey Justin, I run an unofficial tech support account for the Fediverse, and there are lots of guides for beginners at https://fedi.tips I wrote the guides specifically for non-technical people. The most essential guides are at the top of the page in the "quick start" section and there is a complete list of guides below that. Feel free to ask if you want help with anything! |
Föderation EN So 08.12.2024 14:15:26 @developerjustin what seems to click is the email explainer. You might host your email at Gmail or your company or someone else, but you can still talk to other people. Also the idea of following a hashtag instead of a user is a bit like subscribing to a topic on a forum, sub on Reddit or joining an FB group. |
Föderation DE So 08.12.2024 14:54:36 There exist some explanation videos about the #Fediverse. E.g. this one included here: |
