@dansup I think you could save yourself a lot of trouble by making fewer announcements about things you're going to be adding to the software, or about growing your team etc. Or making the announcements you do make less bombastic and sweeping. It's nice to build hype if you're trying to attract vc investors, I suppose (though you've stated multiple times that you're not interested in that), but the problem with hype is that it can easily curdle into disappointment if expectations aren't met. For example, the "huge moderation update" you announced for this month doesn't seem anywhere in sight yet: https://mastodon.social/@dansup/113979358398119425. People may have created a pixelfed server a few weeks ago thinking that the release of these functionalities was imminent, since that's what you said in your announcement, and they'll end up losing trust in you. You've also announced several times that you'll release backend source code for loops imminently, but the code in the repo is still just a stub, last time I checked. But things like this can easily be avoided if you're just more prudent and realistic about your timetable. Nobody is pushing you to announce features all the time, afaict. In my experience people generally like it when you promise less, and then deliver what you do promise, with maybe a little extra as a treat.

@dumpsterqueer you aren't wrong, and I appreciate it.

I've struggled so much with imposter syndrome that I felt the need to constantly ship or announce things, just so people maintained that respect.

all those mod features have been written btw, just not shipped yet, i carefully curate even that aspect because I'm so insecure.

I wish I was as talented as you, you seem to just effortlessly push the envelope forward with such grace.

I will work on this, the fediverse deserves better.

@dansup thanks for your kind words, I don't really agree that I'm doing anything effortlessly or gracefully but it's nice of you to say :') Re: imposter syndrome I understand where you're coming from (I myself don't have a computer science background or anything like that), but anyone whose respect hinges on how much you announce or ship isn't worth currying favor from anyway imo. The world doesn't need more rockstar developers, I think reliability and consistency is way more important atm! Anyway, logging off now as I'm at the gym. Have a good one!

@dumpsterqueer Yeah I need to work on that, and I'm sorry for my past actions. You never deserved that, and I hope we can move forward in a more respectful way so we can collaborate on Comment/Interaction Controls in our respective projects.

Have fun at the gym, and take care!

We are happy with Dani's humility and transparency, after all, he is a human and have the right to write whatever he want. As the Pixelfed team and community, we are happy with this, but thank you again for your suggestion.
