So, I now own the 18-55mm kit lens, and a nifty fifty 50mm prime f1.8 lens for my Canon DSLR. What other EF/EF-S lenses do you think would be most useful and inexpensive? What should I keep my eye out for?

@mos_8502 55-200mm is a decent enough EF-S lens IIRC. Also look around for the 40mm pancake lens.

I’ve still got the 40mm pancake on my long-unused 60D. Nice bokeh, if I recall. Not sure I ever got my 50mm or ST-E2 back from their borrower. If you can get a bargain the old 17-85mm EF-S kit lens is chunky but flexible and sharp enough if you’re not wide open. @andypiper @mos_8502

@mos_8502 old L glass is pretty great, and there are a few models creeping into “cheap” territory now

@mos_8502 I really like my 24mm EF-S prime lens. Nice wide angle. Super compact. Pretty cheap. Can focus fairly close, which is nice for photographing flowers and such.
I love having a telephoto lens to photograph birds and squirrels and other animals, but lately I mostly just carry my camera with a single lens, and its not going to be that one.
The EF-S 10-18mm wide angle lens is neat to have too, but more niche.

@mos_8502 in your particular domain, if you can get your hands on a macro lens with a built-in ring light I think you might get a lot of use out of it.
