Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 18:45:20 @nemo do they also have plans in case the USA completes it's way towards a dictatorship and cuts access to their US servers or worse, infiltrates the organisation and manipulates the data on the servers? |
Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 18:51:51 @duco While the Wikimedia Foundation has comprehensive disaster recovery and continuity plans for a range of catastrophic events-including malicious attacks and censorship-there is no public evidence of a specific, detailed plan for the scenario of a US dictatorship cutting server access or infiltrating the organization. The Foundation's focus is on maintaining high availability, monitoring for global threats, and adapting to emerging risks to keep Wikipedia accessible and trustworthy |
Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 19:28:30 @nemo they probably should do such plans quickly as we are nearly there. The democracy in the USA was always weak, with their undemocratic "the winner takes it all" system and a president having way more power, than a single person in a democracy should eher have. But now they deport people into other countrie's prisons without a (fair) trial and put judges into jail because they weren't happy how they work. That shouldn't be possible in any democracy. The USA already left the democratic path. |
Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 19:43:04 First of all, I'm not involved with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation in any capacity; I can't speak on their behalf. I share your point of view as an avid Wikipedia user and lover of this great tool for over 22 years, using it in multiple languages. I have enjoyed it greatly, and I hope that it will be available in the future too, without any influence from the current US administration. (1/2) |
Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 19:44:18 @duco (2/2) The departure of many academic, civil, and human rights scientists who also have a similar viewpoint is very concerning. As Sebastian pointed out, and other people too, there are great concerns about this project and others as well. I hope that they and many supporters will handle this issue. How they will proceed to tackle it is unknown to me, but I'm sure that they will. |
Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 20:12:46 Yes, the wikimedia foundation is aware of federating. About the DNS issue and on behalf of the W3C Social CG Policy Taskforce, I spoke with the former staff of Vestager cause I simply could not reach out to anybody else in the EU yet. |
Föderation EN So 11.05.2025 20:27:00 just if anybody is unsure what the background is : and now it is urgent. |
