I'm a scientist because 52 years ago the National Science Foundation supported me, as a high school student, to do real research at a university summer science program.
The destruction of US science by Trump and the Republicans today will weaken the country for decades.

@petergleick In my opinion your 'mainstream' media intentionally excludes conservative voices and reports mostly social/left viewpoints.

This will make the issue so much worse. E.g. Margaret Brennan recently said that free speech led to the Holocaust. What? No correction, no sorry. I have no respect for that.

If a medium strongly alienates conservative viewers, of course they won't even listen to the science. And most conservative media won't show it at all.

The US media is incredibly biased.

@FatimaShamsAref @petergleick To the extent that conservative viewers are inculcated with religion, they are lost to science no matter what. A person capable of believing that the fable of Noah's Ark is literally true will never be able to understand the philosophical underpinnings of science.

@gpilz If someone believes that all stories in any book written by a human are true, then they obviously don't believe in science. But that is not what I am referring to. I am referring to any even non-religious conservatives refusing to watch these left-leaning channels because they are very biased.

Science has to be neutral to work for both sides. Global warming denial does not exist because humans are just too stupid to listen to smart humans. Many just fail to neutrally present the facts.

@FatimaShamsAref @petergleick no it doesn't. This is complete nonsense.

@noodlemaz Sure. Any media bias rating organization rating CNN, MSNBC, CBS left is lying then?

Correct, and what you are posting is complete nonsense.

@petergleick They want you weak. Because it’s easier to steal from a people who are weak.

Why they don’t want to fight Russia, is because they want to be like russian oligarchs!

And I’d like to continue to characterize the current administration as the incompetent white men only movement.

This is the antithesis to DEI.

Monotony, dishonesty and exclusionary incompetence.

People hired for the skin tone and loyalty specifically on the criteria of their lack of experience or any expertise

That was my thought too. I don't believe the US has "decades" left. The destruction of US science by trump and the republicans today has already weakened the country — past its breaking point.

@petergleick

I agree. I was discharged from the US Army at 21 and used GI education bill to start my education at a community college. I would not have been able to begin and earn a BS on my own at a state university without some assistance. (first in my family to earn college degree).

By the time I finished my education I earned a PhD degree. I then spent 40 years as a science publisher. What is being done now will cause serious damage to development of new scientists and science.
