If you see something nasty or problematic on here, report it. Reporting is how admins find out about problems, so it's important that you speak up if you see something is wrong or if someone is being bullied.

Web apps are one of the best-kept secrets of the internet. If you haven't tried them before, they are worth giving a go.

Web apps are a mixture of website and app store app, combining many of the best features of both. The restrictions imposed by Apple and Google's app stores do not apply to web apps, so web apps tend to get more features more quickly.

Generally most people only need one account on the Fediverse, because the servers talk to each other as if they were on a single network.

If you want to, you can optionally set some or all of your Mastodon posts to self-delete after a certain amount of time. There's a complete guide to how to do this here:

The guide also answers lots of questions about auto-deletion including its effects and how to adjust its settings.

Bear in mind that deleted posts cannot be restored, they are actually deleted! Be really sure you want to use this feature before you activate it.

On Mastodon, if you've clicked a "Follow" button and it turns into "Pending" or "Cancel Follow" or "Request Sent", it means the follow hasn't actually happened yet.

Usually it's because the account has follow requests switched on, so you just wait for them to approve your request.

However, sometimes it's due to other reasons, and you may have to do something special to get the follow to work. Lots of info and full instructions at:

Have you seen a rainbow pentagon thing and wondered what it means?

It's the logo of the Fediverse, the overall network which contains Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed, BookWyrm, OwnCast and other platforms that communicate using a common standard.

There are high quality versions here:

Technically there can be no official logo on a decentralised network, but this is the most commonly-used logo.

Hubzilla bietet verschiedene Möglichkeiten, die Texte von Postings, Artikeln, Karten, Webseiten, Wiki-Seiten etc. zu gestalten.

Die größte Bedeutung kommt dabei der Textauszeichnungssprache BBCode bei. Sie gehört quasi zum Kern von Hubzilla und Textformatierungen mit BBCode werden optimal nach HTML gerendert.

In bestimmten Anwendungen (Webseiten, Wiki-Seiten) ist es möglich, daneben auch Markdown zu verwenden. Und mittels eines Addons gibt es auch die Möglichkeit, Markdown in Postings zu nutzen (es gibt mit diesem Addon aber ein kleines Problem, wenn man Listen verwendet, weshalb es nur bei wenigen Hubs aktiviert ist). Webseiten kann man auch direkt mit HTML gestalten.

Die Basis aller Textausgestaltung ist bei Hubzilla aber BBCode, wobei es hier auch hubzilla-spezifische Tags gibt (mit denen man ein Magic-Auth, also eine automagische Authentifizierung erlauben kann... oder mit denen man auf bestimmte Inhalte des Beobachters zurückgreifen kann).

Um einen Überblick über den BBCode bei Hubzilla zu erlangen, oder um einfach einmal schnell auf eine "Referenz" zurückgreifen zu können, habe ich den Handbuch-Eintrag BBCode aus der Hilfe ins Deutsche übersetzt und stelle ihn als Webseite hier bei Whoville zur Verfügung. Ich empfehle, sich ein Lesezeichen zu der Seite prominent abzulegen:

TL:DR - Custom emoji are special emoji added by your server admin that you can use in your posts. People on other servers can see your custom emoji, so you can add cool images in posts that they can't (unless their admin added the same ones)
