@apps@toot.fedilab.app, I just logged into a #Sharkey/#Misskey instance for the first time, and for some reason likes show in the notifications as new followers. Not sure if that is a #FediLab bug or an upstream one, but it's quite odd

Ich möchte gerne ein möglichst vollständige Matrix der Features der Fediversesoftwaren erstellen, an prominenter Stelle für alle Interessierten zur Verfügung stellen und Neueinsteigern die Wahl der zu ihren Bedürfnissen passenden Fediversesoftware erleichtern.
Also - wer eine der unten gelisteten SWs kennt, benutzt oder entwickelt und 15 Minuten Lebenszeit erübrigen kann, möge sich bitte bei @LasseGismo melden um das Projekt zu unterstützen.
Ich werde einen Cryptpadlink zur Verfügung stellen um die Änderungen/Ergänzungen direkt in die Tabelle einzutragen.
Wer zudem der Ansicht ist, daß eine Software fehlt und dazu inhaltlich beitragen will, ist natürlich gerne eingeladen sich zu melden.

I would like to create, as complete as possible, a matrix with the features of each Fediverse software, make it available in a prominent place for all interested parties and make it easier for newcomers to choose the Fediverse software that suits their needs.

I will provide a cryptpad link to enter the changes/additions directly into the table.

So I guess Annwyn and I are shopping for a tandem account now, and we're curious about #fediverse software that isn't Mastodon. Or at least I am. I know some people use #akkoma and others use #misskey and the Friendica isn't real. I'm curious as to what people's experiences are with these platforms.

It’s wasn’t so long ago that #Mastodon made up 90% of MAUs on the #Fediverse. Hell, it so dominated Fediverse usage that, for most people, Mastodon was the Fediverse.

But now Mastodon’s percentage of MAUs stands at 58%. And it’s probably lower because the second most popular Fediverse software distribution, #Misskey, doesn’t accurately report MAUs. So what happened?

I suspect four things:

1. Mastodon validated the concept of a Fediverse, which prompted more devs to build for #ActivityPub
2. As Big Social alienated their userbase, some of this userbase sought Fediverse alternatives. This is what drove popularity of #Lemmy and #Pixelfed.
3. #Bluesky became the default alternative to #Twitter instead of Mastodon
4. As Mastodon users became aware of a greater Fediverse, many migrated to other Fediverse software

Obviously, Mastodon is alive and kicking. It’s not going anywhere. Its continuing development is critical to the success of the Fediverse.

But at the same time, the success of Mastodon led to the success of other federated projects. And it works the other way around too. The success of other federated projects is also Mastodon’s success.

So really, lower MAUs for Mastodon is actually a giant win for the big pachyderm.
