@aral one would think that an autistic parent should be more understanding of their transgender kids.... And one would be right in most cases.
Unfortunately not in this one.

@Sh41 @aral Musk is a sociopath, he's likely not even on the autism spectrum. This is like claims that incels are autistic and that autistic people lack empathy but lack of empathy is a feature of sociopathy not autism.

@fifilamoura @Sh41 @aral yup.

as much as elon would claim his daughter (he says son, but that's rude) is just blindly following a trend to try to be cool in coming out as trans, i think the actually trendhoppy thing in the musk family was several years before & elon claiming to have the 'tism/be an aspie.

that moment in time aligned with bored rich people claiming coeliac as their own, & elon was just trying to be part of a scene.

(also, if anyone is to "blame" for elon's trans daughter, it's elon, since in utero trans coding is very likely the result of what was included in the batch of the father that went toward conception.)

@LactatingAlgore Nah, it's been common for people in the tech "Rational Manosphere" to try to claim that exploitative sociopathic behaviour is somehow a sign superiority and genius but also a disability that means their monsterously selfish actions should always be indulged and never be questioned and only seen as a sign of genius. There's a similar trope in the art world that associations being an exploitative asshole with genius (often while stealing other people's work, much like in the tech world). While there are certainly plenty of people on the autism spectrum working in tech, they're far less likely to be in the jobs that are all about being social and managing and manipulating people (but this is where sociopaths do well because they're innately extremely exploitative and this plays well in a system designed to benefit sociopaths, such as capitalism). This is also why the tech industry keeps trying to rationalize/altruism-wash their selfishness via ideologies like Libertarianism and Effective Altruism.

@fifilamoura depending on his upbringing it could be a form of emotionless psychopathy, either way he is dangerous and toxic

@fifilamoura @Sh41 @aral A lot of sociopaths claim to be autistic to explain their defunct empathy, but they usually get it wrong. A sociopath can switch his empathy on and off, and treat people like things/machines, and uses this ability to manipulate people.

An autistic person simply does not understand people, with no desire to treat them like things/machines, so it is very hard for them to manipulate people. Instead, they focus on real machines, which they do understand.

@forthy42 @fifilamoura @aral we don't understand people the same way neurotypicals do. Funny enough, autistic people empathise with each other at the same level NT people do

@Sh41 @fifilamoura @aral A lot of neurotypical people have problems to empathise with people who are different, too. And it's not only a different skin color tone that makes their empathy disappear… there are many ways to turn them into sociopaths.

@forthy42 @Sh41 @aral 💯 Quite a few humans would fail the theory of mind test too! Mainly because so many of us have a hard time understanding how unique and diverse humans are (for all kinds of reasons).

@forthy42 @Sh41 @aral Sociopathy is a part of neurodiversity, neurodiversity includes all brains not just autistic ones (otherwise there's no diversity, just another incorrect binary that actually ignores and denies diversity). Not all autistic people are the same either, obviously, even though it's often easier for us to understand people who are cognitively and culturally similar to us because then, if we're simply projecting onto them, our projections are likely to be slightly more accurate. Common assumptions can go a long way in creating a sense of consensual and consensus reality with someone (and these assumptions can come from biology or culture because the two influence each other).
