Föderation EN Di 02.04.2024 06:00:04 I've learned the reason why I can't follow anymore people is that Mastodon limits the number of people you can follow to 7,500. Okay, I guess? A cursory search indicates this is to prevent spamming, although I haven't quite figured that bit out yet. Does anyone have some insight into this limit? A quality link would be nice. Thanks! |

Föderation EN Di 02.04.2024 14:17:03 I have never heard of this limit before, where did you find this out? |
Föderation EN Di 02.04.2024 15:46:38 Okay, looked into this further. According to one of the lead Masto developers: (If you're importing followers) "...there's a limit of 7500 followers, or 1.1 times the amount of people following you, whichever is higher." So, I think the idea is to prevent spammers, trolls etc instantly following a million people or something similarly ridiculous. Guessing it would cause infrastructure problems if there was no limit at all, could be used by vandals etc. |
Föderation EN Di 02.04.2024 15:47:40 ...but if you get more than 7500 followers, then you will be able to follow more people too. (e.g. A person with 10k followers could follow 10k people.) |
