@Vivaldi now supports Snap on Linux. This is in addition to DEB and RPM, that we have supported from the very beginning. Enjoy!

@jon @Vivaldi I had to do a reinstall of Ubuntu Linux on a new hard drive and when I went to install Vivaldi, I found that there is now a Snap. This is excellent news!!

@jon @Vivaldi And I forgot to thank you and the rest of the team for making sure Linux is treated as a "first class citizen" and not forgotten or not cared about by so many software companies.

@jon @Vivaldi after mozilla goes AI, I think vivaldi has potential for mainstream on linux. Even without the PRESTO engine 😎 What about looking into Servo at some point?

I think for the time of being our focus is just on building Vivaldi. Changing engine is no small task.

@jon @Vivaldi I was not suggesting change, just having a look to have options in case blink goes wild (as so many things currently go wild on the other side of the pond)
I find it interesting that the frustration is big enough so people start making competing rendering engines.

@jon @Vivaldi Will there also be a Flatpak version? Snap is already very customised for Ubuntu

That is NOT a progress IMHO.

We aim to support our users wherever they are. We will continue to support DEB and RPM as before. This is making it easier for those that are on Ubuntu or using Snap as their preferred package on other Linux distributions.

We have also gone out of our way to support Linux on ARM, to support Raspberry Pi and similar projects. Overall we want to support Linux everywhere.

@jon @Vivaldi I'm not sure why there is a touch of negativity here and there around Vivaldi released as a snap. Isn't Linux about choice in how it's used? Plus, there is a noticeable move to Linux happening because of recent questionable updates to Win and Mac, and those people generally go for Ubuntu or Mint, and initially use them how they're used to. So apps just being available in an app store and installed in a click serves those type of users. I see this as a good thing at the right time.

Sounds great! I personally prefer flatpak since my system is fedora based, but more support options is a good thing.

I hope that you guys will be able to figure out how to securely do the flatpak version at some point too.

I think we need to work with the Flathub team on this. We are eager to work this out with them.

That sounds great. I imagine if you manage to work something out, other chromium based browsers will also benefit
