Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 00:07:10 Does anyone have experience selling at craft markets, or EMF Camp's Night Market in particular? As I'm prepping to exhibit there with my Botvinka Studio gear, I'm struggling to gauge how much stock I should bring. Any tips or experiences you'd like to share are welcome 🫶 (And yes, this is the exact same post I put on Twitter 😂) |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 00:07:57 @kieczkowska from my vantage point at FoH running the lasers, the night market seemed very popular. |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 00:12:54 @gsuberland Great to hear! I've certainly enjoyed it myself as a attendee in previous years. |

Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 11:05:10 @kieczkowska Generally I think it is better to bring too much stock than not enough. Somebody might just make a spontaneous purchase, but if you haven't got it they might not bother going online and ordering. Make sure your table looks interesting, with some demos, but prices and what you get should be clear. |

Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 11:32:36 @rc2014 you're so right about the prices visibility. I sometimes find it awkward if the price is not visible, because I feel that if I have to ask, i'll also have to decide if I'm getting the item on the spot. |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 11:40:17 @kieczkowska Some people like to see the price, and just buy the thing with minimal interaction. Others want to chat and ask you questions before making their mind up. Make sure you have an answer ready for "So, what is this you're selling here?" I assume you have some form of accepting payment? Cash is much less common these days, although some people prefer to pay cash. So you'll need change and also card reader/PayPal app or similar. |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 11:42:42 @rc2014 In my case it will be fashion-adjacent accessories and jewellery, so I'll be sure to have a list of materials I use handy as well in case someone is allergic to specific things. And yeah, I've set up an app on my phone to accept card payments, and possibly will be able to get my hands on a card reader too (I think people might find it weird to type their card PIN into someone's phone if contactless doesn't work). What is the percentage split of people paying cash vs card in your opinion? I'm not sure how much change I should be bringing. |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 11:51:51 @kieczkowska The kits that I sell vary in price from around £20 - £150, so for the bigger stuff it is almost all card payment. Smaller stuff maybe 1/3rd cash 2/3rd card. Looking at your items at £5-10 I suspect more cash than card. If you can stick to whole one pound increments then it'll save you on needing lots of 50p change. |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 12:31:31 @kieczkowska I don’t have any experience of running a stall but as a buyer I would highly recommend bringing some business cards/leaflets. So many times, I’ve been to a stall, and someone has grabbed the last of what I wanted. I take a picture of the stall, but it gets lost in the ether. A card in my pocket that I take out later goes a long way to reminding me to check them out! |
Föderation EN Do 23.05.2024 13:06:38 @kieczkowska also a first-time #emfcamp Night Market vendor here so thank you for asking this, following! We (@forgeandcraft) just did an art fair so are all set for card payments etc. Interested to read the replies from others here. See you in the market next week 🙂 |
